So, it seems my life this year (as always) has been full of surprises (good and bad) around every corner. That's why I love it! I feel I am constantly caught off guard about new situations almost every day. It definitely keeps me on my toes and makes life anything but boring. That being said, I'd like to share a few of the highlights with you:
A, I'm in love! This has definitely been an interesting (sometimes speaking euphemistically) and fun adventure to get to this point. Those of you who know me well, know that for me allowing myself to open to someone in that way is NOT an easy one. It's been ten months and I'm definitely really happy with where we're at and where we're going. I know that the "L" word was a long-time coming for me (and for him, for that matter), but we're happy and life is good. Now we're creating new adventures in this state of bliss...
B, I got a REAL teaching job! Last spring/summer I applied to several schools in Utah thinking that was where I wanted to be. After a private school down there flew me out for an interview and offered me a position, I just felt like living in Utah was NOT what I wanted to do with my life. So, I spent the rest of last summer (5-6 weeks) in Idaho visiting friends and thinking about life and my place in it. At that point, it was too late to try and find a teaching job in Washington and I wasn't even sure anymore that Washington was where I wanted to be... nor was I sure if I wanted to be a teacher! After some very interesting experiences, traveling, and moving, I've realized that teaching is all I've ever really wanted to do. I was made to be a teacher. So, I applied to a few school districts, had a few interviews, and landed an English teaching job at an inter-racial high school in the area. I'm excited because it was the school where I most wanted to teach. It'll be tough and life-changing, but I'm really excited about it. I'm even more of an adult now. I have a degree that I'm going to be using to be a teacher. Crazy.
And C, I got a car! It's a '98 Subaru Legacy GT. I got it June 4th to be exact. I've been without a car for a while since an accident a couple years ago. I just never got another car because I didn't really need one that badly. Well, I finally decided that enough was enough and got this car. It's a good car and I'm excited. I think Subaru has got me sold for life. This is definitely saying something since I LOVE German-made automobiles... but, I don't know there's just something about a Subaru.
Life has been definitely been adventuresome this year! I'm looking forward to a second trip to Hawaii next month to visit my beau before the craziness of planning and organizing my classroom sets in. There are many more stories to come, I'm sure. I just have to say that I am very thankful for my life. It has most certainly not always been easy, but I have been very blessed with SO many wonderful family, friends, and adventures amid all the struggling and the strife. And I have God to thank for it.
