Finding a dress.. that's the ONLY thing I feel truly stressed about in the midst of hosting a German exchange, planning to go to Germany for a month, and planning a wedding! I feel like I'm having a hard time finding a modest wedding dress.
As far as I know, there are (virtually) NO modest dresses in the greater Seattle area. Evan's mom considered making me a dress, but I think it'd be too much of a hassle and there's not enough time.
SO... right now I'm in the midst of trying to find a beautiful dress in which to be wed. I've tried on a few dresses at a local bridal shop (all immodest of course) to see what styles fit well to my body. Here is a dress I found that looks beautiful on:

I'm scouring online "modest" dress sites and hoping to find one that will ship SUPER fast, as I leave for Germany in less than 6 weeks and it needs to be here before then. Anyone have any website suggestions or general dress suggestions?

thats where i got mine. i love the short one btw! very unique and pretty. also theknot.com has links to a lot of different places. not sure on the shipping though. davidsbridal.com also is good. you can find someone local to make you a balero (a short sleeve cover). thats what my cousin did it was actually really pretty
Sarah -- it's Christian's Andie. :) Heard you got engaged, congratulations! There is a great wedding dress boutique in Portland that makes vintage-inspired dresses. The designer is an aquaintence of mine named Elizabeth Dye and her shop is called The English Department. www.theenglishdept.com. If you take a day trip to Portland, you can talk to her and tell you what you are looking for, and she will most likely make or add on to another dress you love. xoxo!
Hey Sarah,
There's a store in Utah called Allyse's Bridal. You might have heard of it. They're in the Orem mall. Their website is http://www.allyses.com/ I don't know if this would help or not, or if they mail dresses, but they have a plethora of modest dresses. Maybe you could get an idea of what you want or something. Good luck! I hope you find something soon.
I got my dress at latterdaybride.com. They have a huge selection and they are all modest. Good luck and remember to enjoy it, it'll go by so fast, especially cause you're so busy!!
My pal Emily designs and makes really beautiful dresses. Take a look at her blog:

Sarah!!! OMgoodness! So, obviously I haven't checked your blog in a few days...CONGRATS!!! I'm SUPER excited for you...you are going to be the most GORgeous bride. Have so much fun...you're only engaged once! PS, I found a sleeveless dress online (Target...I know...who knew?! It was only $180) but anyway, I loved it but we needed to make it modest...my aunt made a little jacket thing...it was perfect!
I, too, bought my dress at beautifullymodest.com.
They shipped it fast, I had it within ten days. It was gorgeous, or at least I like to think so :)
I really love that short dress though. It's beautiful! I hope you find the dress of your dreams! Love,
Ash
Hi Sarah. I would love to see you if you come to Portland. And I wanted to say that I found a dress that was modest minus the sleeves, but my mom sews and she was able to make her own cap sleeves to put on my dress. It turned out beautiful and you would never have been able to tell it didn't come that way. So maybe Evan's mom could do something like that. She said it was real simple to do. Anyway, congratulations on your engagement. So exciting!
I LOVE that 50s dress! that really would be so perfect to find!! Good luck in your quest for the perfect wedding dress. I know you will look dazzling no matter what. Congrats again!
congrats on getting married!!! i love love love that top dress! i've always thought it would be so fun to wear a short dress like that.

Try Abella Bridal

The prices are way high (but keep looking, because they go down by the end, and the dress I bought is 50% cheaper now). But check out the HILLARY dress. It's very 50s and modest.
Love ya! Have fun planning!!! Yeah!
get the dress you like... the one you think looks beautiful on... but get a tasteful little bolero/shrug made to go on the top. you can get subtle puff sleeves on them or darts/pleats put on them to add a cute feminine touch. also, with getting a little cropped bolero made you get to pick out what fabric you want, style, etc. so you can make it be whatever you'd like. DO NOT get one of those classic t. shirt top wedding dresses... where it looks like a t. shirt with either a box neck or a rounded neck - no, no, no! congratulations by the way. :)
p.s. look at my wedding pictures - i had one made.
i saw this and thought of you...

Two thoughts:
LOVE the 50s inspired look
Go with a dress you have fallen in love with, then ask the shop or other very skilled tailor/seamstress to "modest it up." Both my sister and I did that for our strapless dressed. Nobody could tell our dress designs were originally sleeveless.
A third though - how about a German gown? ;)
